New boy off mark

New Trinity signing Matthew Godden says he is pleased to be back playing football again after coming off the substitute’s bench to score a debut goal against Nuneaton last Saturday.

The 20-year-old joined the Blues on a month long loan deal from neighbours Scunthorpe United last week and found the net with only his second touch to put the Blues 2-0 ahead.

Godden made his debut for the Irons against Manchester United in the Carling Cup two seasons ago but has been kept on the sidelines for seven months through injury.

In 2009, Steve Housham brought him to Brigg Town while he was manager and Godden says he is delighted to link up with Housham again.

“It’s been a frustrating time for me with injury at Scunthorpe but came back training Monday and Housh gave me the call.”

“I spoke to the gaffer at Scunthorpe and he let me come out on loan. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Brigg, it was a massive learning curve for me in my first year as a professional at Scunthorpe.”

“I’ve come here mainly to get fitness because I’ve been out seven months but to get a goal on your debut is always nice.

“Being out for so long I’ve lost a bit of my sharpness, but to come on in my debut for Gainsborough and score is what I wanted to do.”

Housham has also bolstered his defensive options with the signings of goalkeeper Jason White from Shirebrook Town and former Lincoln City defender Kern Miller.

Both players have signed deals that will run until the end of the season.
