New manager's 12 games to plot survival route

Sinnott, appointed after the sacking of Dave Frecklington, has 12 matches in a busy two months to lead the Holy Blues out of the relegation zone.

The former Port Vale and Altrincham manager lost his first match in charge to leave Trinity second from bottom and four points from a place outside the relegation zone.

But the determined boss said he knows what is required for Trinity to produce a second successive late-season ‘great escape’.

“I know in my mind what points we need to be operating in this division next year,” he said.

“If you look at the games we have got left, you can’t just rely on the points at home (to stay up), you have got to be picking points up away as well.

“It is a big challenge for everybody.

“The big thing is for the players to work hard, enjoy themselves and apply themselves.

“If you have those you get belief, once you get that you get better performances —and better performances bring points.”

Sinnott said his short-term aims were to instill that belief in the players and to start picking up points.

He said a lot of teams were in the same position in the relegation fight.

“I want to bring a passing game where the supporters enjoy watching the football,” he added.

“I like to pass the ball, but we are on a short timescale — 12 games in two months.”

Sinnott is being aassisted by the experienced John Reed, who had been at Shaw Lane for three seasons.

He said: “It’s a great challenge, but we can steer the club in the right direction.”
