After losing Alex Penny to injury and seeing Martyn Woolford and Demeaco Duhaney dismissed, the Pilgrims refused to crumble and secured the 4-2 victory with Brad Abbott's stoppage-time finish.

Prior to that Jordan Thewlis has slotted away two penalties and Dominic Knowles was also on target.

"It was a crazy game from start to finish, full of emotions and inconsistent officiating, but you get them games now and again," Elliott said.

"I'm so relieved to come out on the right end when we seemed up against it for large periods.

"We showed great resilience. The players deserve a hell of a lot of credit to win away with nine men."

Elliott was frustrated with Woolford's 62nd minute red card for shoving an opponent.

However, he felt Duhaney was hard-done-to as he picked up a second yellow for kicking the ball away.

"I cant defend, Woolly," Elliott said.

"I was right near him and he reacted. There was a lot of emotion in the game but an experienced player like that, you expect him to react differently.

"We'll miss him now in the FA Cup.

"I'm all for players showing emotion and heart but there's a fine balance.

"Demeaco just suffered from inconsistency. There was a lot of people kicking balls away all game.

"Their players did it, our players did it. So where do you draw the line?"

Penny left the field in the first half following a clash of heads.

"He's heavily concussed and not in a good place," Elliott said of his half-time discussion with the defender.

"Fingers crossed it's not too serious."
