No Becks regrets for Little

BRIAN Little insists he does not regret his decision to send Luke Beckett to Worksop Town on loan, despite the striker’s good form in the Northern Premier.

Beckett has netted three times in his six games for eighth-placed Town so far which has helped the Tigers record four successive Evo-Stik Premier wins.

Gainsborough though have lost three Blue Square North games in a row since his move and Little had no replacement strikers to choose from on Saturday.

When asked after the loss to Worcester if he regretted allowing Beckett to go on loan, Little’s response was: “No.”

“Becks wanted to go and he asked the chairman (Peter Swann) if he could and the chairman did a deal for him. The decision was his and the chairman backed that decision up.”

“I think the world of Becks and he’s been a servant to this club, but he’s not scored many goals for us this season and Ryan (Kendall) has looked sharp.”

Little fielded no fewer than seven defensive players in his line-up at the weekend as his side looked to keep only their third clean sheet of the season.

While that backfired badly with Phil Barnes and Neal Spafford being at fault for the goals, Little denies his team were more focused on defence than attack.

“I didn’t think we played defensive,” he said of his team selection and game plan.

“Greavesy was there to sit in front and the other two lads (in midfield) were told to get up front as much as possible. Boyce is every bit as good a midfielder as he is a centre-back and Peat has been playing well in midfield.”

“I didn’t play defenders on purpose; we tried to play a way to win a game of football and in all fairness, I think we should have got something.”
