No time to sulk, says defiant Frecklington

Disappointed Gainsborough Trinity manager Dave Frecklington refused to get too despondent as his side struggled to avoid relegation.

Trinity face a difficult run-in as the National League North season draws to a close.

A 1-0 defeat Tamworth on Saturday left them in the bottom three, but Frecklington said: “We can’t sulk or get too downhearted.

“We have got some big games coming up.”

Ahead of their midweek match against FC Halifax, it looked like a fight between Trinity and Worcester City for the final relegation place.

On Saturday, City were level on points with Trinity with 30 from 34 matches, but their goal difference was 10 better.

Bradford Park Avenue and Telford were four points clear of the relegation zone after the weekend matches.

This Saturday Trinity are at home against play-off chasing Darlington.

Two more sides at the top, Chorley (away) and Stockport County (home) then follow. Over Easter, Trinity play Salford City and Brackley Town.

Frecklington added: “Training is bright as always, but it is what you do on the pitch that matters.”
