Craig Elliott has challenged his Boston United squad to deliver promotion - and one final magic moment for York Street.

The Pilgrims boss wants to channel the emotion of Monday’s FA Cup defeat to League One Rochdale - played out in front of a 4,000-plus crowd - and send his squad climbing up the table.

“They were exceptional,” Elliott said of the home support.

“We’ve got to use that moving forwards and create another special night this year, and that means promotion, whether it’s winning the league or go up through the play offs.”

Elliott is calling on the United support to come out in their numbers again as Boston host Gateshead on Saturday.

He continued: “It’s spine tingling. I came out through the warm-up and It was amazing and shows the size of this club and what a privilege it is to manage the club.”

Boston host the Heed on Saturday before a busy Christmas schedule which includes facing National League North leaders King’s Lynn home and away, plus the visit of old rivals Kettering Town.

Boston may have been beaten 2-1 by Dale, who now host Premier League opposition in round three, but Elliott doesn’t have time to lick his wounds.

Football doesn’t stand still, you move on,” he added.

“Privately it was a big target of mine to create a big cup run at the club.

“The players deserve a lot of credit, they’ve created it, it’s just a shame we couldn’t get Newcastle United down.

“Its a big month, but exciting.

“These are big games we look forward to trying to catch top of the table. It’s a really exciting time and I’m looking forward to it.

“I hope it motivates the players, it motivates me. I’m hungry to win promotion and create some more special moments and nights like this.

“We’ve just gone toe to toe with a League One team and we haven’t been played off the park. Some of the lads have just said ‘we’ve proven we’re good enough to go up, let’s go and do it now.”

Kick off at York Street on Saturday will be at 3pm.
