Opening day defeat for Tigers

WORKSOP Town suffered a disappointing defeat on the opening day of the season away to Ashton United.

Tigers went down 5-3 on their return to Hurst Cross on Saturday, a ground which hasn’t proven lucky for them before.

A brace from Leon Mettam and a Steve Towers goal gave the visitors hope with the scores level at 3-3 going into the break.

But Ben Deedan gave the hosts the lead just after the hour-mark and Matty Barlow sealed the points for Ashton late on with Tigers chasing a deserved equaliser.
