Tigers get new boss as Clark appoints Clark

SIMON Clark is the new Worksop Town FC manager.

The 44-year-old left his post at Evo-Stik First Division side Stamford AFC today and subsequently accepted the position of Tigers first team boss.

Club chairman Jason Clark confirmed the appointment to the Worksop Guardian this evening.

The Chesterfield businessman had previously stated he wanted a manager who would get the team playing ‘the right way’.

“His team, Stamford, play football the way I want Worksop to,” he said.

Before he became Tigers owner last year, Clark had originally wanted to get involved with junior development.

That desire influenced his decision to appoint his namesake today.

He told the Guardian: “He’s a coach who focuses on player development and he has a pedigree in youth football.”

“And he’s hungry,” added the owner, who wants to take Worksop higher than the Northern Premier League.

The new man’s career in the game began at Lincoln City, and he played in the professional ranks for Peterborough United and Leyton Orient.

After working in the Lincoln youth set-up, taking over at Sincil Bank temporarily and scouting for Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson, he took over at Stamford in May of last year.

Last season was a disappointing one for Clark and Stamford, who finished 19th in their division, but they began the 2011/12 season well – winning seven of their first 11 league encounters to go joint top of the table.

Tigers, who lost 4-0 today at Marine, are under the control of a third manager since Jason Clark took control in 2010.

Peter Rinkcavage departed early last season after a breakdown in the working relationship between he and Clark, and his replacement Martin McIntosh was sacked nearly two weeks ago due to a poor start to the season, before goalkeeping coach Andy Lake became caretaker manager.

For full reaction to the appointment and a report from today’s loss to Marine see next week’s Worksop Guardian.
