The on-loan Notts County defender went off injured during last Saturday's FA Trophy defeat at Atherton Collieries.

But Pilgrims boss Craig Elliott hopes to have the young talent available for selection at Spotland tomorrow (KO 2pm).

"Pierce Bird has got a msask fitted for his broken nose," he said.

"So I'm hoping he can play with a mask on Sunday."

United have suffered a centre back curse this campaign with Bird, Simon Ainge, Alex Penny and Lewis Gibbens, now back at parent club Mansfield Town, all having spells on the sidelines.

Ainge is expected to be available for selection tomorrow, having trained with the team this week.

However, former Peterborough United defender Penny remains out of action after his head injury at Farsley Celtic.

"Under concussion laws he's got 19 days, so he's got no chance of being available," Elliott added.

"Alex has good experience in the Football League and would've adapted no problem.

"It's unfortunate, but these are obstacles you have to overcome."

"We have to stick to our DNA and play to our strengths," Elliott added.

"We are hoping George will be involved. We're lucky to have two good keepers at the club."
