The striker was forced to wait seven games for his first Pilgrims goal, but broke his duck in style by grabbing a brace in the recent 4-1 victory over Lowestoft.

The forward then came within a whisker of adding to his tally in the 2-0 victory at Curzon Ashton.

However, after getting to know his new teammates, the forward is confident that he will continue to find the net.

“I think the lads are starting to understand how I play now,” he said.

“I go in behind a lot, when I first started to play it was all a bit alien.”

With the recent injury to leading scorer Dayle Southwell, Sands says he has thrived on the challenge of playing up front with out-and-out wingers, the pace and crossing ability of Kaine Felix and Jay Rollins appealing to him.

“I’ve been in the number 10 shirt I’ve always worn at every club,” he said.

“That’s my role up front and I’ve done all right.

“It’s brilliant, that’s what I thrive on, crosses.

“When I first came here I saw that’s the football they play and I thought ‘that’s a bit of me’. I love it.”

With one eye on the National League North table, Sands believes the Pilgrims have every chance of booking their place in the play-offs with a top-five finish.

He added: “I think every game is so big from now on.

“All the lads are giving it their all.

“Hopefully, we can all kick on and go a league higher.”
