Desborough had keeper Leo Adams to thank as they smuggled three points away from the DWB Stadium.

He pulled off a string of fine saves which meant Simon Ashton’s second half goal was not enough to prevent Boston Town falling to a second successive loss at home, writes Simon Ashberry.

Adams was first called into action atter 10 minutes when he clawed away a goal-bound Jordan Nuttell header.

But the visitors found themselves 2-0 up at the end of a largely uninspiring first half after they twice punished lax marking.

The Poachers began the second period in rip-roaring style, with Jack Dykes seeing a shot agonisingly blocked on the line before Ashton rammed home from close range to give the hosts high hopes of a comeback.

They continued to bombard the Desborough goal throughout the second half but found themselves two goals behind again after being caught out on a rare break from their own corner.

There was further intense pressure on the away goal, with Craig Parker’s dangerous long throws allowing Nuttell and Alex Beck to cause frequent havoc in the penalty area, while Terry Fleming kept Desborough firmly on the back foot with his raking forward passes.

Tempers threatened to boil over as Boston officials accused Desborough players of feigning injury - and they were further infuriated when referee gave a foul but no card for an apparent elbow into the face of teenager Dykes.

Adams had to be at his best again to tip the resulting Jason Field free-kick over the bar.

Even in the dying seconds, the Poachers’ luck was summed up as Nuttell won a knockdown but Beck’s shot was again cleared off the line.

It was another frustrating defeat for assistant manager Jason Callaby, taking charge in the absence of boss Mark Angel - but there was plenty to be encouraged about in the second-half performance.
