Boston Town were left angered by a questionable penalty decision going against them as they were beaten 3-1 by Cogenhoe on Saturday.

The flashpoint came in first-half injury time when referee Matthew Lake awarded a spot kick after Richard Ford appeared to be fouled in the Boston penalty area and the follow-up shot struck the grounded player on the shoulder from point-blank range.

James Doughty saved the penalty, only to see Jack Bowen tap in the rebound.

Following last Wednesday’s Lincs Senior Trophy defeat at Blackstones, conceding a second spot kick in as many matches was a sickener for Mark Angel’s side.

The Cooks already led 1-0 at that stage after Tom McGowan reacted quickest to a cross to put the away side 1-0 up at the DWB Stadium.

The 2-0 scoreline effectively killed off the Poachers after a busy opening half which saw Doughty pulled off some important saves.

For Boston, Alex Beck and Alex Zarrelli both saw efforts cleared off the line while Jordan Nuttell went close and also struck the bar.

Town were also left fuming at some challenges on Doughty and Ford which went unpunished.

Ryan Parnell replaced Zarrelli after the break and, after Terry Fleming had shot over and Cogenhoe rattled Boston’s bar, the hosts pulled a goal back.

The excellent Nuttell won yet another aerial battle which set Parnell free.

His one-two with Fleming saw him fire past Josh McAdoo for his second goal in two games.

Moments later Jason Field, returning to the club from Stamford, shot just off target and Parnell struck the post, but was adjudged to be offside.

However, Cogenhoe had the last laugh as Bowen scored his second of the afternoon in the closing minutes, the ball taking a cruel deflection.

The Poachers were beaten 2-1 at UCL Division One side Blackstones in the Lincs Senior Trophy in midweek.

Ryan Parnell had given Boston an interval lead.

However, Sam Strange pulled things level in the 75th minute before Town’s hopes disappeared in the 87th minute.

Michael Wood saw red for a last-man challenge and - from the resultant penalty - Dan Evans slotted home.
