Potter nets hat-trick as Saints march on

Sunday saw the Boston Town Saints under 14s in action at Tattershall Road ground, recordinga 3-1 victory against Welton.

The two teams began the day similarly placed in mid-table, and Welton immediately put the hosts under pressure with a goalmouth scramble somehow denied by a concerted defensive effort.

Saints then returned the favour but were kept out by an excellent hand-height save by the Welton keeper, leaving the score at 0-0 for the next 15 minutes as both sides played some searching end to end football.

The stand off was brought to an end by Saints’ top goalscorer Liam Potter, helped by the muddy conditions and bobbly pitch deceiving the keeper.

Shortly afterwards the Welton keeper was tested again but made two brave saves, refusing Galuszka and Lee-Hopps a place on the scoresheet.

Saints showed themselves to be a consistent threat on the break.

On 25 minutes Potter put away his second.

Saints goalkeeper Mason Harris was more than equal to the task when Welton came close to scoring with an on target attempt, requiring a typically competent save, swiftly followed by a solo run from Potter ending in a composed finish into the right hand corner for his hat-trick.

One further attempt on the Saints goal was also picked up by Harris and Boston led 3-0 at the break.

The second half saw a defensive error by Saints concede a penalty, ably put away by Kyle Fox.

But the visitors couldn’t capitalise further, Smart clearing a further chance.

A further challenge by Potter on the Welton goal was denied by another excellent save by Daniel McNair, but the Saints won it 3-1.
