£35,000 grant allows Morton FC to return home

Morton Football Club have returned to their home ground, thanks to a £35,000 grant.

The cash, granted by Biffa Award, helped Morton Playing Field Association relay the pitch after it was damaged by subsidence and declared unsafe.

Biffa Award is a grant body that distributes landfill tax credits to worthy causes.

The grant to Morton Playing Field Association also funded a new youth shelter, which has also been used by Morton FC supporters.

Not only are the football club enjoying their new playing surface but Morton Trentside Primary School have been able to start using the field again for sports and games after a long absence.

And Morton Cricket Club is also set to return to the playing field in 2014 and as part of the funding awarded from Biffa Award had their cricket square completely re-laid.

The ground improvements mark the end of a big year for the cricketers, who enjoyed their 150th anniversary and picked up the coveted Clubmark accreditation for providing top class cricket coaching for juniors.

They’ve recently had their own grant success, with a £2,000 windfall from the Co-op to assist with the purchase of ground maintenance machinery. The work funded by Biffa Award forms part of a wider project being delivered by Morton Parish Council and Morton Playing Field Association which has seen the addition of a new Multi Use Games Area.

The Associaion has also recently spent several thousand pounds on high spec CCTV to monitor the site in an attempt to keep malicious damage on the site to a minimum. The Playing Field Association has also secured some funding towards a new children’s play area but does need to secure further funding before the new facilities can be delivered.

New bins and park benches are also on the Association’s wish list as well as a new sports pavilion and changing rooms to house the village sports clubs.
