A 10 minute spell in the second half crushed the Badgers’ dreams of progressing, as Belper took a 5-0 victory.

In the first half, Retford more than matched their hosts despite Belper having an early chance over the bar.

Retford moved forward but were frustrated by an ex player in defence as Dan White was in great form for Belper.

Belper almost found an opener just before the break, a glancing header from Jon Froggatt was just wide of Jody Barford’s post, then more pressure from the Evo-Stik side saw Richard Adams go close.

On 52 minutes, the opener came as Glynn Cotton stroked the ball past Barford after a good move on the left.

Retford then collapsed as a second goal on 54 minutes increased the Belper lead, Chris Adam firing into the bottom corner.

On 58 minutes he scored a second, rising to head the ball past Barford for number three.

Retford started to live dangerously, a back pass from Andy Walkden was just wide of his own goal, then on 68 minutes, the game was effectively over when a diving header making the most of a spill by Barford by Jon Froggatt put the game beyond reach.

Despite their efforts, Retford couldn’t find an in road, Gav Cooper firing over on the volley and Scott Bibby stretching to put the ball into the arms of the keeper.

Jamie Jackson wasted a chance to further increase the lead as he tried to go on his own with options available to put the ball over the bar.

Despite chances from James O’Neill and Bobby Johnson in the closing stages, Froggatt put the icing on the cake for the Derbyshire side as he fired home in stoppage time.
