Reece Thompson was the first to test Paul Hagreen in the Glasshoughton net with his shot well saved, then Glasshoughton won a corner that was punched clear by Jody Barford.

The opening stages didn’t really give a hint of what was to come in the game, but on nine minutes, the floodgates were opened as Liam Wilkin connected with Craig Fisher’s pass that went under the foot of a defender giving Wilkin the space to fire a shot past Hagreen to open the scoring.

On 21 minutes the lead was doubled, Wilkin getting his second after Gav Cooper – on as an early substitute for the injured James O’Neill – did well to win the ball and find Wilkin.

There were several more chances for Badgers before the end of the first half, Thompson coming close and Fisher heading just over the bar.

Glasshoughton were gifted an opportunity after the break, but Hilliard Serrao’s shot went wide.

Wilkin came close to a hat-trick, diving to head Cooper’s cross, directing it the wrong side of the post.

On the hour mark it was 3-0, Thompson beating the offside trap and then Hagreen in the Glasshoughton net.

The treble arrived for Wilkin less than 10 minutes later, Cooper playing him in to control and strike, giving the stopper no chance.

It was over as a contest on 80 minutes, Wilkin grabbing his fourth after good work from Thompson on the right.

A minute later Richard Medcalf, on as a replacement, shot on the turn to make it 6-0.

An injury to Wilkin, with all three substitutes already on the field, meant Retford had to finish the match with 1- men.

And Glasshoughton took advantage, with an 88th minute Dalton Harris header after a succession of corners.

Retford’s attention now turns to the FA Vase on Saturday, with the visit of Oadby Town who currently sit six points clear at the top of their respective league in what will be a tough test for both sides.

The last time the sides met, Oadby were the winners in the FA Vase second round clash in 2003, the victory coming with a solitary goal in the 70th minute in front of large crowd of 323 at Cannon Park.
