Revenge for Town

This time it was the Lilywhites who came out on top, thanks to two goals from leading marksman Will Britton.

Still smarting from the 6-5 defeat inflicted on them by Borough at the beginning of the month, Town headed for Lucarly’s ground at Humberston with an air of trepidation.

They were without the injured Miles Chamberlain, but Luke Rayner-Mistry returned to the squad.

The seasiders took the lead after 30 minutes when Britton cut in from the right and fired goalwards.

The Grimsby keeper got a hand to it, but couldn’t prevent it going over the line.

Borough were always in the game while the score remained 1-0 and they did step up the pace in a bid to rescue a point.

But their hopes suffered a blow when they were reduced to 10 men, the result of a poor challenge on Arron Scutt, with 15 minutes left.

Britton added salt to their wounds with five minutes on the clock when he doubled the lead to clinch the points.

Skegness manager Nick Chapman was delighted with the result.

“We played very well and defensively we were very sound,” he said. “At 1-0 we had a few nervy moments, but I don’t think Borough were as strong as when they played at our place.

“This was a big game for us and one we needed to win.”

Town now need just four wins from their remaining six games.

They travel to Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Tuesday evening in league action (KO 7.45pm) and Horncastle Town on Saturday in the Challenge Cup semi-finals (KO 2.30pm).
