Roma in rallying cry to Trinity fan base ahead of big kick off

Dom Roma has urged the Trinity fan base to get behind the squad after the club smashed their season ticket record for the upcoming season.

The Blues re-wrote the record books last week when they reached 173 ticket sales and they now hope they can extend the total beyond 200 before the first home game of the season on Saturday against Bradford Park Avenue.

Speaking about the news, Roma has vowed that his side will play attractive football and the team will fight for every ball.

He said: “By the time the first game comes around we will hopefully have sold 200 season tickets and the number at the minute is already the highest ever so we have to thank the fans and I hope they can back us all season long.

“I’m not saying we are going to win every game of football, sometimes we are going to lose but what the fans will see is that we want to play football the right way and the players will put a shift in every match.

“So I ask them to stick with us all season and get behind the lads.”

Saturday’s visitors Avenue have made 14 signings this summer and Roma knows that the fixture will be a whole lot tougher than the 4-1 victory Trinity secured at the Horsfall stadium in April.

He said: “It will be very different from the last game of last season. I know their manager really well and it will be a tough game. Every match this season will be a tough game. Obviously we want to get off to a good start but as always there are a lot of variables.

“The thing is you can hit the post, the crossbar, their keeper can pull off some great saves and then they can win with their only shot of the game.

“So the season doesn’t hinge on the first game, it’s how professional we are over the course of it. I’ve always said you don’t want to peak in pre-season or the first game of the season, you have to gradually get better and better as we go along. We will be coming out to win against Bradford as we will away at Alfreton on the Tuesday but the season won’t hinge on the result on Saturday.”

The former Sheffield United full back is expected to field a similar side which drew with the Blades last week.

He said: “It will most likely be the team you will see next Saturday but obviously things can change. We’ve got a weeks training so nothing is set in stone. Nathan Jarman will get 45 minutes on Wednesday night against Hull to build up his game time and the lads know that if they are not performing we have the options.”

When asked about targets set for the new campaign, Roma was rather coy, insisting the players knew what he expected of them.

He said: “I want to improve on last season’s position in the league in terms of points and position. I’ve set the players a target of what I think they are capable of achieving and I’ve told the chairman what I want too. Hopefully we will have a good season and the lads will hit the targets I have set.”
