Musing Miller: Flying start to 2012

The win marks a fantastic start to the year for the Millers who found Bradford on their best form this season, winning three games in a row and being unbeaten in five.

Two goals from Lewis Grabban and an own goal from the Bradford keeper, all in a hurried 11 second-half minutes, ensured the win for United.

Grabban’s goals take him to a total tally of 15 goals in all competitions for the season, proving he is a crucial element if the team want to progress up the league.

Without his goals the team would be a lot closer to the bottom of the table than they currently are.

At the moment the win leaves them still three points away from the play-off positions.

This has to be great encouragement for the team and manager Andy Scott who has seen his side struggle throughout the season.

It wasn’t all bright news for the Millers though with midfielder Danny Harrison being taken to hospital with a head injury.

He picked up the knock during the first half and managed to continue until half-time when he took a turn for the worse, Scott said.

The Millers will be looking to try and strengthen the side during the rest of the transfer window after the early signing of Chelsea keeper Rhys Taylor.

The 21-year-old joins the club on a months loan and despite never playing for Chelsea the youngster made 49 appearances for Crewe Alexandra last season.

He was bought in to replace Conrad Logan who returned to Leicester following the end of his loan spell at the club.

The players get a well-deserved weekend off this week, after being knocked out of the FA Cup in the previous round, but then have two successive home games to come in January.

If they can take points from Swindon who are in the play-offs and Port Vale who currently sit in 13th then the club will be in a very strong position to make the move into the play-off places.

Ideally four points from the two games would be a fantastic set of results for the club but on the back of the important win against Bradford the players should have the confidence to take all six points.
