Musing Miller: We’re just so unpredictable

THE unpredictable nature of Rotherham United in League Two continues with a win and a loss at home in just four days.

Last Saturday they defeated a struggling Plymouth side, who find themselves back in the relegation zone, 1-0 and then days later the Millers suffer a defeat of the same scoreline to Torquay.

Boss Andy Scott said after the defeat to Torquay: “We’re playing well, the lads are doing what I’m asking them to do, we’re putting balls into the box, we’ve just not attacked the right areas. If we’d attack it well, we’d have scored, but they’ve fed one ball into the box, attacked it well and they’ve scored. We’ve dominated the game and played well so the system has worked well, but we just didn’t anticipate the balls coming into the box.”

The Millers have failed to perform at home all season, all too often drawing or losing matches that they should be winning.

The team have lost seven games at home compared to only losing five away. If they’re looking to progress they need to change this for next season.

Moving into the new stadium will provide the club with a chance to build up a fortress where they don’t lose any games.

At the moment Don Valley Stadium with the thousands of empty seats and no atmosphere is an advantage to the away side.

The New York stadium has to be the opposite for the spirit of the club to be rebuilt.

The Torquay game saw Gareth Evans play his first full 90 minutes for the team after coming back from injury.

He played the match on the back of being offered a contract extension from the side after playing enough games to activate a clause in his current contract.

Evans and midfielder Jason Taylor are being offered new contracts with Taylor set to sign a one-year extension.

It is expected Evans will follow him after ironing out some clauses in his contract.

This is a huge bonus for the club as in the last two games where Evans has made appearances he has been one of the team’s strongest players.

Despite only just returning from injury he has already shown the attacking outlet that he is, providing crosses and getting on the end of a few chances although lacking the match fitness to convert these into goals.
