Play-offs all but gone
The defeat all but ended the Millers play-off hopes as they now sit nine points away from seventh place.
Although there are 21 points still possible for Rotherham to win, it is unlikely the team will be able to amass enough of those to pull up into the play-offs when others around them are in better form.

Caretaker manager Darren Patterson said: “I am obviously disappointed with the result, but first half we should be comfortably three or four in front.”
“We absolutely battered them, couldn’t convert our chances and get done with a sucker punch. I am disappointed second half we conceded such a sloppy goal early on.”
The Millers have not been able to take their chances all season and their poor home form has been a let down to the fans that have attended week in week out.

If the board and chairman has any sense they’ll make the appointment as soon as possible, which will be for the good of the club.
The Millers need a manager who can turn the team around and produce a team for next season who are able to score goals and take a home advantage.
This new manager may be one with experience but could equally be a fresh face to the game and come in to the club with ambition, drive and the want to take the club up the divisions.

The true test of the new manager, when they are appointed, will be their signings.
They’ll have to make some shrewd signings that will come in and strengthen the weakest areas of the team on a shoestring.
The sooner the new manager comes into place the more time they’ll have to build up a team for next season.
