Scott slams Millers after Swindon loss

Rotherham boss Andy Scott slammed his players after their 2-1 home defeat to Swindon Town on Saturday.

The Millers conceded two goals in a minute in the first half before Alex Revell pulled one back for the home side after the break.

Scott said his players didn’t perform well enough for the whole match and that they should perform the way they did in the first half thought-out the match.

“If you don’t perform for 90 minutes against good sides you don’t deserve anything.”

“It’s too easy to play well and chase a game but you’ve got to have the balls and some heart to take it to them from the start.”

“We had a great opportunity today as we’ve done a lot of work on Swindon.”

Matt Ritchie scored a quick fire double in a minute first striking low from 25 yards before unleashing a dipping shot from the edge of the penalty area, out of the reach of Rhys Taylor in the Rotherham goal.

Looking like a different team in the second half the Millers bossed the half and should have scored more than Revell’s header midway through the half.

The defeat leaves Scott’s men 11th in the table, four points off of the play off places but he remains confident his players can make the step up into the top seven.

“We’re still 4 points outside of the playoffs which is amazing because we’ve still got a chance which is great for us because if it clicks mentally then there’s no stopping us.”

“The key word is frustration but my patience is wearing very thin with some players at the moment there’s only so much talking you can do, there’s only so much work you can do in training. It’s up to them to go out on the pitch on match day and show they can do it.”

After the match Scott did not rule out any more signings during the January transfer window.

Since 1st January Millers have signed 34-year-old veteran defender Richard Naylor from Doncaster until the end of the season, Chelsea goalkeeper Rhys Taylor on loan for one month and Peterborough defender Scott Griffiths on loan until the end of the season.

He said: “There may be some movement one way or the other, you’ve seen we’ve got the chairman’s backing bringing Scott, Sam and Richard in as well. We’ve got the makings of a good team.”

The Millers are in action next when they face Port Vale at home on Saturday.
