Schools football: flurry expected

A FLURRY of activity is expected this week as schools rush to complete fixtures that will earn qualification into the “Champion of Champions” football tournaments.

Norbridge are the only school who have already qualified after a 2-2 draw with Langold, a fitting result as both teams are coached by Lee Scott.

The first division title will hinge on a final day battle between Carr Hill and Redlands, with holders Carr Hill needing just a draw.

Similarly Sir Edmund Hillary, almost certainly there already, will need just one point from their meeting with Serlby Park.

In Division Five qualification will probably depend on results received from Dunham-on-Trent and Priory.

To decide the line-up in the lower divisions Gamston need just one point from their meetings with bottom two clubs Rampton and Harby while Blyth and St Swithun’s both depend on their results against Shireoaks.

Misson, in Division Eight, after a close 4-3 victory over North Leverton, are another team needing just a single point from their last game against Sutton-cum-Lound.

Ryton Park’s Girls attempt to win the Midland Counties title ended in disappointment when after winning their group with an undefeated record they fell at the semi-final stage to a single goal by the champions of Worcestershire.

They now look forward to defending their “Champion of Champions” title when they can expect tough opposition from Prosepct Hill, Holy Family and Ordsall.
