Skegness Town's match against Ollerton Town was abandoned on Saturday after a serious injury to Lilywhites defender Jacob Norburn.

An ambulance took Norburn to hospital from the Vertigo Stadium after a second half tackle left him with a suspected broken right leg.

At the time of the incident the two sides were locked at one goal apiece after the seasiders had missed a catalogue of chances.

The biggest surprise at half time was that it was goalless.

The home side had peppered the Ollerton goal, but a mixture of bad luck, brave defending and poor finishing left them with nothing to show for their efforts.

At the other end goalkeeper James Lambley had to be alert to divert a free kick round a post.

After the interval the seasiders continued to press, but the Ollerton goal continued to lead a charmed life.

The seasiders finally made a breakthrough in the 55th minute after they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Jordan Smith as he reached the by line.

The home striker dusted himself down and them fired the spot kick into the top corner.

Chance after chance came and went for the seasiders, but they were unable to add to their tally.

Then, midway through the second half, a corner from the right was turned home acrobatically by an Ollerton player to level the scores.

The Lilywhites continued to create opportunities to regain the lead, but they couldn’t find the all-important finishing touch.

Six minutes from the end the game was abandoned after Norburn suffered a serious leg injury while trying to clear the ball.

The NCEL management board is expected to decide whether or not the game will be replayed.

Last week the board met and decided that the game between North Ferriby and Swallownest, which was abandoned after 77 minutes due to a floodlight failure, will be replayed.

On Saturday Skegness Town travel to basement side East Hull for a 3pm kick-off.

Their next game at the Vertigo Stadium will be on Saturday, December 14, when fellow high-fliers Campion visit for a 3pm kick-off.

Skegness Town Reserves return to action on Saturday (December 7) when they entertain Fishtoft in the Boston League Premier Division, kicking off at 2pm.
