Owls anger at Blades cash row

A GROUP of Sheffield Wednesday fans, angered by the cash dispute between Worksop Town and Sheffield United, are taking action in support of Tigers.

The Guardian reported last week that Sheffield United are to take Worksop to court over an alleged unsettled debt from the 2007/08 season for the loan of goalkeeper Steve Hernandez.

Worksop owner Jason Clark has argued that Blades have not been willing to negotiate with him over the debt, believed to be less than £3,000.

And this week Owls fans have had their say, under the banner ‘Wednesdayites for Worksop.’

One of the organisers, Chris Eales, told the Guardian why he and other Wednesday supporters were involved.

“I read the news story about it and like a number of Wednesday fans was concerned because we’re aware of the trauma of seeing your club almost destroyed – Worksop Town have recently been saved from administration and they’re a small club,” he said.

“We wanted to get together and do something about it, because our club has a good relationship with Worksop.”

The Owls fans are raising money that they will donate to charity in Tigers’ honour as a gesture of their support, with Macmillan Cancer Support and Sheffield Children’s Hospital benefitting.

Their website www.wednesdayitesforworksopfc.co.uk had raised over £300 as the Guardian went to print.
