Six of the best from Gainsborough Sunday League leaders Friendship

For not only did they spank Owston Ferry Sports Club 6-0 in their latest match, they also extended their 100% start to the campaign to six matches and maintained their six-point advantage at the top of the First Division.

In a game they dominated, Friendship showed just why they are genuine title contenders as they looked powerful in attack and resolute at the back. They have already pundered 36 goals and conceded only four.

Mind you, the defending champions, Mattersey, are determined not to relinquish their title quietly, if at all. They also boast a flawless record after making it four wins out of four with a hard-fought 3-0 success at Elm Cottage. The stage is clearly set for an epic encounter between Mattersey and Friendship this coming Sunday.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Smiffys United moved up to third in the table after a 3-2 victory in a competitive match at Haxey against struggling Kings Arms. Kings are still waiting for their first win of the campaign but remain just above bottom side Misterton United, who crashed to their seventh straight defeat in a 12-2 shocker at home to Retford Rail.

In Division Two, tabletoppers Tuxford WMC were without a game, enabling MUSC to gain ground with a 5-0 victory at Morton to end a run of inconsistent form. But the only side yet to lose are Albertos, who are poised nicely in fourth spot after a narrow 3-2 triumph at home to Olde Sun in a clash between two evenly-matched oufits.

Towards the foot of the table, both Ordsall AFC and Leverton United celebrated their first victories of the season. The former just got the better of a tight game against Black Horse, winning 2-0, while Leverton won 4-2 at Walkeringham in an entertaining clash littered with chances.

Third Division leaders Bridon AFC stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches but, for the second week running, they had to settle for a draw as they were held 1-1 by third-placed Kings Arms Reserves. Their lead was duly cut to five points by Ship Inn Morton, who enjoyed a convincing 4-0 success at determined Stanwood Engineering, who never gave up. Also making stealthy progress are Horse And Jockey, who remain the only other team in the division byet to lose after edging out Ropery Inn 5-4 in an action-packed thriller.
