Skegness manager praises leaders

Joint-boss Chris Rawlinson believes his Skegness Town side were beaten by the team that will end up as league champions on Easter Monday.

The 4-0 loss at Boston Town left the hosts needing a win from their last game to secure the title, with Skegness having also drawn 1-1 at Hucknall Town on Saturday.

And Rawlinson felt both results were fair.

He said: “It was a busy weekend and we managed to have a look at a couple of the lads that have been sat on the bench for a long while on Saturday as we had one or two unavailable, and we were quite happy with the performance against Hucknall.

"Hucknall had far more of the ball on a very windy day but I think we had the better chances and a draw was probably a fair result between two mid-table sides.

"I was relatively pleased as it made us four unbeaten ahead of the Boston game.

"I think Boston will win the league now and fair play to them. They’re a very good side and are very good at what they do.

"I was very impressed with them today but it keeps up our record against the top five sides away – we’ve been beaten by all of them away from home but have managed to take points off four of the five of them at home.

"We let a silly goal in in the first couple of minutes but then missed a good chance ourselves and if that goes in it makes it a bit more nervy for them.

"But we then conceded two set play goals within five minutes in the second-half which was ridiculous and killed the game, then they had a dubious penalty late on.

"So good luck to Boston and I hope they go on and win the league. A lot is said about the Boston and Skegness rivalry but I’ve got some good friends there who are part of their management setup so I’ll be pleased if they do manage to get it over the line and not to have that rivalry next season!”

Skegness now host Ashby Ivanhoe this weekend in what for most teams in the UCL Premier North will be the last regular game of the season, with Skegness still to play an outstanding ‘dead rubber’ fixture at home to Kimberley on April 25.
