The club’s 15-goal leading scorer (pictured) returned to training on Thursday evening after being sidelined with a broken matatarsal.

And although the former Grimsby Town striker wasn’t quite ready to turn out for the club during Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Stalybridge Celtic, it is hoped his return will be immnent.

United don’t have a fixture this weekend, but return to face Bradford Park Avenue at Cemetery Road next Wednesday (KO 7.45pm), with that match targeted for Southwell’s return.

“He can’t wait to get out and play,” said Greene of his marksman. “He trained fully on Thursday and was just aching a bit.

“He’ll be rested up and ready when he’s back.”

Southwell has missed the past seven games, but as Boston edge closer to the tail-end of the season and the race for a top-five spot, the manager hopes his forward will be back to top gear.

“He’ll be buzzing when he gets back, he’ll be rested and fresh so hopefully by the time he’s got five or six games under his belt we’ll be approaching a play-off situation and hopefully he’ll be fit and fresh.

“If Dayle were fit for the last few weeks we’d probably have a few more points on our tally.

“It will certainly make us stronger.

“We’ve got a real strong squad - the last two games have just been about missed chances.”
