Stadium rockers! Mark Jones calls on Boston United's fans to cheer them to vital victory against North Ferriby

The Pilgrims host their Humberside rivals at the Jakemans Stadium on Saturday, in a contest which could play a major role in both sides’ promotion hopes.

With Boston and the Villagers still in the hunt for the top five and a place in the play-offs, Jones knows success on Saturday is vital for the hosts.

“It is massive,” he said.

“Saturday is huge, and if we can get the crowd behind us we can really kick on and get three points.”

The striker believes a rocking Jakemans Stadium always lifts the side and gives them an added boost.

He compared a lively home clash to the recent 5-2 defeat at AFC Fylde, where less than 500 supporters watched a top-six battle at Kellamergh Park.

“It makes a massive difference. When you come to places like this (Fylde) and there’s only 400 people, you have to get yourself up for it, but at home games with the fans behind us it gets the lads going,” he continued.

“If they can create a great atmosphere they can help get us over the line as well.”

Jones has every confidence that United can beat their rivals.

He told The Standard: “We feel we can score against any team. We’ll be confident as long as we can keep it tight.

“I’ll continue to work hard and if I get a chance I’ll take it.

“Whoever comes in, they can do a job in this squad.

“It’s been an up and down season, but the outcome we want is to make the play-offs.

“Hopefully, we can kick on.”

North Ferriby came from behind to secure a 4-3 victory against the Pilgrims in the reverse fixture back in November.

Carl Piergianni and Grant Roberts twice gave Boston the lead, only for the Villagers to turn the contest on its head and leasd 4-2.

Kyle Dixon’s late goal gave Boston some hope but the hosts held on for an important victory.

Ferriby have been a bogey team for Boston in recent meetings.

Last season saw them do the league double over the Pilgrims, as well as earning a 2-0 replay victory on their way to lifting the FA Trophy, following an initial 1-1 draw.

Boston’s last victory against their weekend opponents came in the penultimate game of the 2013-14 season.

Jamie McGhee and Ricky Miller found the net in a contest which effectively allowed Barrow to leapfrog Ferriby and claim the title.
