still ambitious

The experienced former league professional left the club to join play-off chasing Bradford Park Avenue, and questioned Worksop Town’s ambition.

Hudson told the Guardian: “I really enjoyed my time with Worksop, but the budget got cut and players were let go and I was just thinking ‘what’s the ambition of the club?’”

“I feel for the manager because he’s been really good with me and brought players in but is having to let them go, which is a bit of a shame.”

Clark admitted it was a blow to lose the midfielder, who had 13 goals for Tigers this season, but says the club have big plans for next season.

The boss explained: “He was non contract and I’ve known (about Bradford’s interest) for a month.”

“Huddy met them on Friday and they’ve turned him around, they’ve got the play-offs to play for.”

“He was in my plans for next year, he was a talisman of sorts for us and I’ve nothing but respect for him – but he’s left.”

“I asked him to stay but people of his experience know their minds.”

“That said, we will be right up there next year from the first pre-season game to the last game of the season – the club doesn’t lack ambition.”

“The club is ambitions, I am ambitious and the chairman is ambitious, but we’re not throwing thousands at it.”

“Long term I think Huddy will regret it if they don’t go up.”

Ahead of Saturday’s visit of high-flying Chorley, Clark was chasing a number of targets with the aim of capturing one new signing.

He said: “We’ve got seven days (approaches) in on five players.”

“But we’re not just going to bring people in for the sake of signing them, the player we want to bring in must add to us next year and must be here for next year.”

“Myself, Frecks (assistant manager Dave Frecklington) and the chairman are all focused on next season.”

“I’m not going to spend the club’s money on bringing someone in who is not going to be a Worksop Town player.”
