Gary Edgley admits it is frustrating for Boston Town's season to come to an abrupt halt, but says it was the 'right thing to do'.

The FA announced that all football from steps three to seven in the National League System would cease due to the Coronavirus outbreak in a statement last week, including the United Counties League, where the Poachers play.

All results have been expunged and promotions and relegations will not happen.

Edgley backed the FA's decision, but believes more could be done to get more football played earlier in the season.

A lot of sides were playing catch up already this campaign due to wet weather conditions, and have missed out on that revenue.

"It was the right decision. It had to be with what's happening at the moment," Edgley said.

"But the thing for me is that before Christmas we don't play a lot of midweek games.

"We've all got floodlights, so hopefully next season it could be looked at changing that."

Edgley also offered his sympathies to the sides gunning for promotion from the division.

He added: "It's frustrating but I feel sorry for the sides that were up there at the top of our division and the teams who had spent big as well, who spent a lot of money trying to get promoted, not just in our league.

"But there have been teams who have been up there all season and they deserve some recognition, the likes of Rugby, Quorn and Shepshed."

Town were sitting 11th in the UCL Premier with 10 games to go, in a campaign where they reached the second qualifying round and were looking forward to an Lincs Senior Trophy final against Grimsby Borough.

While the FA Cup may yet still be completed this season, the Poachers are still waiting to hear whether the county cup clash will be played.

If not, Edgley has suggested the two sides meet in pre-season to play the contest.

The league campaign may be null and void now, but Edgley says he can proudly look back at what he, his team and players had achieved since August.

"We achieved everything we set out to do this season," he added.

"From a personal point of view, we had a successful season.

"We reached the final of the county cup, had a good FA Cup run and did well in the league."
