Gary Edgley wants his Boston Town side to emulate the successes on and off the pitch of Lincolnshire rivals Deeping Rangers.

And as the two United Counties League Premier Division sides prepare to meet at the DWB Stadium on Saturday, the Poachers boss will use the contest to see just how close the two sides are.

“It’s a big game right before Christmas and we’re expecting a bit of a cracker,” said Edgley, whose side have won their past five contests.

“We look at Deeping and I’ve said before we have aspirations of being like them. They’re not a one-off, they’re up there every season in the top five.

“They do things really well there, they’ve got a fantastic pitch and a good budget.

“They’re the benchmark. I’m looking forward to Saturday as a chance to see how close to them we really are.”

Saturday’s scheduled trip to Holbeach United was postponed, which left Edgley with extra time to prepare for the Deeping visit.

However, he was full of praise for his side who made it five straight victories following last Tuesday’s 5-1 home win against UCL Division One Blackstones in the Lincs Senior Trophy.

“The lads have been fantastic, but I honestly believe there’s still more to come, at least another 20 per cent,” said Edgley, whose squad have finally shrugged off a number of injuries.

“If you go to anywhere in this league with four or five players missing you’ll be in trouble, that’s just the way it is.

“That’s the problem we’ve had for a long time. But now things are looking better for us.

“And with playing together more I think the lads who have done brilliant for me will only get better.”

Fraser Bayliss and Alex Beck both scored twice as Town beat Blackstones 5-1.

Harry Limb was named man of the match as the on-loan King’s Lynn striker grabbed his third goal in as many games.

“It’s a great result, a good performance and we deserved it,” Edgley added.

“They’re no mugs be we played well from the start.”
