Three points can see Boston United turn the corner - Greene

The Pilgrims have dropped outside the play-off places following successive away defeats to AFC Fylde and Chorley but now have back-to-back home clashes to play as they chase a route back into the top five.

Greene told The Standard: “We deserved more against Chorley on Saturday but just as winning becomes a habit, losing can become a habit too.

“We just need our next three points as soon as possible and we are determined to get a victory in front of our own supporters on Saturday.”

The Pilgrims are winless in their last five encounters against Ferriby and currently sit five points behind Saturday’s third-placed opponents.

Their current plight was eased by Nuneaton Town’s surprise defeat at Gainsborough Trinity and Tamworth being held to a 0-0 draw at home by Corby Town.

United’s cause against the Villagers will not be aided by the fact that influential centre-half Carl Piergianni is suspended. The defender collected his 10th yellow card of the season at Bradford Park Avenue on February 24 and missed the trip to Chorley on Saturday – and will complete his two-match ban this weekend.

With perennial substitute Cameron Johnson beginning his own three-game ban following a red card at Fylde on March 5 and midfielder Stephane Ngamvoulou returning to Whitehawk following the completion of his loan spell, Greene’s resources are stretched.

When asked in Saturday’s post-match interview about bringing in new faces ahead of Ferriby’s visit, Greene was non-committal on new recruits despite the depleted nature of United’s current squad.

Kaine Felix, who had United’s best three chances at Victory Park on Saturday, admitted that the Pilgrims are struggling for confidence with only one win from their last six encounters.

“We need to rediscover our confidence and hunger,” Felix told The Standard. “It’s hard to put your finger on what’s causing our current form but we just need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

“I am sure we can still make the play-offs.”
