THRILLING DRAW

RETFORD United missed another chance to go top of the NCEL Premier with this draw against bottom of the league Pickering Town.

Badgers were without several players through injury, including Chris Baugh, although Liam Corrigan returned to the side at right back.

Pickering were dealt a blow in the first minute, losing their captain Tom Adams through injury.

And Retford opened the scoring after eight minutes, Carl Haslam crossing and Warren Hatfield pressuring Pickering forward Darren Brandon into an own goal.

Pickering were quick to respond, Joel Ramm equalising only three minutes later.

Just after a quarter of an hour Retford were back in front, this time Haslam finishing his run with a goal.

Two minutes into first half stoppage time it was level once more, Brandon making up for his earlier error.

Retford were in the lead for a third time in the 47th minute, Rob Austin rising to power home a header from Haslam’s cross.

With the summit of the league in sight, Retford couldn’t hold on to their lead and in the 68th minute, Pickering replacement Eddie Cass beat Jason Fisher to secure a point.

l ON Saturday Brett Marshall’s men beat Winterton Rangers 4-2 with goals from Warren Hatfield (2), Adam Scott andDanny Hayes.

United are at home this Saturday, facing strugglers Maltby Main (3pm).
