Tigers skipper’s blast

Tigers captain Steve Towers bemoaned his side’s inability to hold a lead, after a devastating 3-2 defeat in midweek.

Worksop led 2-0 at half-time against Rushall Olympic on Wednesday, but like so many times before they wilted under pressure.

Towers said: “It’s happened too many times, four that I can think of when we’ve been two goals up.”

“We don’t stand up to it, we can’t deal with it for one reason or another and we haven’t got the men to deal with it.”

“We haven’t got enough of the people who want to go and do the horrible side of the game, and it costs us.”

But the midfielder says the team have no option but to keep fighting for a play-off spot, even if it requires a daunting seven wins from nine games.

“It’s a massive ask. It’s achievable, we’ve shown we can do it earlier in the season.”

“But you can’t keep giving goals and leads away like that. We’ve got to change.”

“We’ve got no choice. If it’s on we’ve got to go to Matlock on Saturday. We’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again.”
