Top 10 finish for Academy kids

Thurcroft Junior Academy’s Under 11 boys footballers qualified for the regional finals of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup this month.

The youngsters battled it out with nine other schools at Walkden High School in Salford for a place in the national stage but fell just short.

A spokesperson for the tournament praised the Thurcroft boys for their performances, saying: “From kick-off, spectators were on edge as they witnessed great action throughout the afternoon from all the school teams involved, in an exciting day of U11 boys’ football.”

“Thurcroft Junior Academy played an astounding game, although they have not qualified for a place in the ESFA Danone Nations Cup Finals, they deserve a massive congratulations for making it to one of the top 10 teams in the north.”

The Danone Nations Cup is a global tournament with over 2,500,000 boys and girls involved worldwide.

Now in its 14th year, the world final will come to London for the very first time in September.

The regional finals continued across the country throughout the month of March, as the remaining school teams competed in their respective formats for the ultimate chance to become Team England and win a place in the Danone Nations Cup world final, taking place later this year.
