Town can’t show Greens mercy

Gary Edgley has nothing but respect for Sleaford Town manager Jamie Shaw - but he wants his Poachers side to add to his misery this weekend.

The Greens currently sit rock bottom of the United Counties League Premier Division, still looking for their first point of the campaign.

To make things worse, they were hammered 9-0 by Holbeach United on Saturday.

And Boston Town don’t want to be the first side to drop points against them when they meet at Eslaforde Park on Saturday.

Shaw - a fomer Sleaford striker - has worked hard to keep the club going this season, filling in in a number of positions, including between the sticks, after losing a number of players in the summer.

“I’ve got complete respect for Jamie and everything he’s doing at Sleaford Town,” said Poachers manager Edgley.

“We were training in Sleaford and he came over for a chat.

“He’s a really nice guy and he’s working really hard for that club.

“Obviously, they’re in trouble at the bottom of the table and, as much as I like Jamie and what he’s doing, we have to be professional.

“We need to treat it like any other game and try to win three points.”

The tables have turned from 12 months ago when Sleaford secured a 4-1 Boxing Day victory over Boston.

Days later the Poachers put together an eight-game unbeaten run and climbed the table.

They haven’t looked back since while the Greens have moved in the opposite direction.

“It’ll still be a derby game and everyone will want to claim bragging rights,” Edgley added.

“We just need to make sure it’s us that comes away with the points.”

The match kicks off at 3pm.
