Rochdale came back into the game and on 14 minutes home keeper Andy Thornton saved well from Allesandra.

Rochdale then missed a clear chance to take the lead when a header was put wide of the post.

The home side responded with chances falling to both of the Roper brothers, but neither Jon nor Jamie could find the net.

The second half started with Town in the ascendancy and they had several chances to take the lead but were unable to make the all important breakthrough.

On 58 minutes they had to reorganise when Matt Lepianka received a nasty head injury.

Play continued to move from end to end with both sides having chances until Rochdale scored the winning goal on 85 minutes when Elliott slotted, the home defence strongly contending that he was in an offside position.

Town pushed forward looking for the equaliser which would have taken the game to extra-time but Rochdale held out to progress to the next round.

Dinnington return to league action on Saturday when they entertain leaders Athersley Rec at 3pm.

Dinnington: Thornton, Fairweather, Sykes, Ramsden, Lepianka, Allott, Trench, Mirfin, Jamie Roper, Cartledge, John Roper.
