Town show their title credentials

It was billed as Skegness Town’s biggest match of the season so far and the Lilywhites didn’t disappoint.

They put in a great show in front of the Vertigo Stadium faithful to guarantee their place at the top of the table at Christmas.

Against title rivals Campion, who finished runners-up last season, this result sent a loud message to the rest of the league as they went four points clear at the top.

The home side got off to a bright start, Jenk Acar marking his debut with the first goal after just six minutes.

The ball fell to him in the box and he confidently tucked it away to settle the Lilywhites’ nerves.

A Danny Brooks free-kick was headed narrowly wide by Ben Davison as Town went in search of a second goal.

But it wasn’t one way traffic. Campion had their chances to equalise, but their failure in front of goal meant the seasiders led 1-0 at the break.

Luke Rayner-Mistry joined the action for the second half and it took him less than 10 minutes to make his mark.

Davison headed a free kick down and the substitute swept the ball home to double the lead.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men when Acar and an opponent saw red as tempers flared.

Jason Field then hit the bar with a clearance from the half way line.

The points were made safe with 10 minutes to go when Davison flicked the ball over the keeper to make it 3-0.

A poor challenge on Elliot Broughton resulted in a yellow card for the perpetrator and Broughton’s reaction left him seeing the rest of the match from the dug-out as he was sin-binned.
