GAINSBOROUGH AND DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE

Heckington United 2

GAINSBOROUGH Town were looking to make it back to back victories after last Saturdays 5-3 over Ruston Sports and they did in brilliant fashion hitting seven past Heckington.

G. Andrews, Shaw and Steven Hutchinson occupied the central midfield with Nichol and Lill forming another strike partnership.

Town pressed early on and it was as early as the fifth minute when Nichol hit the ball from 20 yards the keeper parried and with Lill five yards out and an open goal somehow placed it wide.

But it was in the ninth minute when Andrews fed the ball over the static defence, Nichol ran onto it and calmly slotted the ball beyond the onrushing keeper to make it four in four games.

Gainsborough continued to press with some lovely free flowing football.

In the 17th minute Nichol picked up a cheap yellow card for a rash challenge on the centre midfielder of Heckington.

Gainsborough extended there lead when again Andrews played the ball over the top for Lill to chase who megged the keeper and rolled it into the net for his first of the league campaign.

After 30 minutes Robinson chased the ball down the line who squared it to Nichol who selflessly laid it back to Lill and he slotted past the keeper to make it 3-0.

Town were looking unbeatable with Heckington getting nowhere the boys in green and white.

Heckington though finally got on the scoresheet with a goal fromSam Greenwood.

It wasn’t long till Lill got his hat-trick and Town made it 4-1 on 41 minutes.

Leigh Hutchinson floated over a corner for Lill to head home at the back post in the top corner.

Town were dominant to say the least with the midfield three running the show and Heckington having no answer for the them.

The full-backs will have wished they had never turned up with Robinson and L. Hutchinson giving them a torrid time.

The second half saw an early sub with Holland coming off and Anderson coming back into centre half as a replacement.

Town soon made it 5-1 and Lill made it his fourth of the day after Page put a ball over the top for Lill to chase onto and he made no mistake, sliding it past the keeper when one on one.

Town then made another substitution with goalkeeper Liam Andrews coming in at left-wing back Lill dropped into centre half and Leigh Hutchinson went up top.

Town took their foot off the gas a little, but the sixth and Lill’s fifth came after some sublime football from the Gainsborough boys, when a 25 pass move ended with Lill hitting a swerving shot from 25 yards past the luckless keeper.

Three minutes later Nichol doubled his tally for the day and made it five for the season as he latched onto a through ball from L. Andrews, drove past the keeper and slotted it into an empty net to make it 7-1.

Heckington scored a late consolation goal to round off this nine goal thriller.

Man of the Match went to Craig Lill.
