He was awarded a 50-year service award by the English Schools FA for his outstanding contribution both as a member of the committee and as chairman.

Mr Fowler went to festivals all around the country in support of the under 19 team, in particular, and he presented cups and medals to the winners of school competitions at various age groups held in Lincolnshire over many seasons.

Stuart Fraser, who had also been involved with Lincs Schools FA said: “The presentation to John by the English Schools FA of his 50 year service award was well deserved.

“Over the years he and (his wife) Enid must have covered most of Lincolnshire visiting secondary and primary Schools to present awards.

“John gained a lot of pleasure from that, but for his dedication also great respect throughout Lincolnshire and beyond.”

Mr Fowler’s funeral was private due to the current restrictions.
