Trinity bring in new faces for battle at bottom of table

Gainsborough Trinity boss Dave Frecklington moved quickly when the transfer window opened to strengthen his threadbare National League North squad.

He signed three vastly experienced players as well as extending the loan of Derby County keeper Henrick Ravas for a further month.

Frecklington said he was pleased with the news after the young Slovakian shot-stopper starred for the Holy Blues in recent weeks, making the National League North team of the day on New Year’s Day for his fine saves against Boston United.

Former Lincoln City and Mansfield Town utility player Lee Beavers and Alfreton winger Adam Smith, another former Mansfield player, have joined for the rest of the season after Frecklington’s already small squad was hit by injuries ahead of their battle to avoid relegation.

Beevers, 34, has been training with the club since the summer, having retired from the professional game in May after more than 450 first-team appearances.

Smith, 32, is returning for a second stint with the Holy Blues, having first played for them in the 20087/09 season.

Smith has played well over 300 games in the National League North and higher.

Also back for a second stint with Trinity is Simon Russell on a free transfer from North Ferriby, having left the Northolme for Ferriby 18 months ago.

Russell captained Ferriby in their first season in the Conference Premier said the situation there meant it was time to move on.

Frecklington said he was delighted to land his experienced signings.
