Trinity hope Harry Maguire's World Cup magic rubs off on them

Leicester City defender Maguire, who scored in England’s quarter-final victory over Sweden, was at the Martin and Co Arena to watch Trinity, whose team included his older brother Joe, lose 4-0 in a friendly against Chesterfield, who included his younger brother Laurence.

The match attracted a bumper crowd of more than 900, double what Trinity would have expected, and chairman Richard Kane said: “We are looking for a bit of magic this year to correct the wrongs of last season.

“It was superb to have Harry here. He was the best England player at the World Cup, so it’s a nice story.

“No-one expected him to go out to Russia at all, but he really did shine.”

Maguire’s presence at the game also generated widespread coverage in the national media and even on Sky Sports TV.

Trinity supporters were bowled over by the time the down-to-earth 25-year-old took to speak to them and to sign autographs.

Afterwards, Maguire thanked Trinity for “looking after me” and added: “A great night watching the Battle of the Maguires. Hope everyone enjoyed their night. Sorry if I missed anyone.”
