Two games in Gainsborough League

JUST two fixtures took place on Saturday in the Gainsborough and District Football League.

The game between Bridon AFC and BFC Birches, who both play on the Hardmoors pitch in Retford, was always going to be a tense local derby and it was going to take great goals or mistakes to win the game.

Bridon AFC had the better of the first half and led 2-1 but BFC Birches applied a lot of second half pressure and Bridon made defensive mistakes to let Birches score three goals to win 4-2 and claim bragging rights in Retford.

Both teams played very well at times and the game was a credit to both.

Haxey FC entertained Gainsborough Town Canute Reserves and again it was the home team who had the better of the first half, but Canute were not to be denied and a secnd half that saw them score four goals turned the game on its head with the Gainsborough Tteam running out 5-3 winners.

The leaders Mattersey FC were not playing and neither of this weeks results seem likely to stop them from becoming champions.
