Two-year deal reward for boss Frecklington

Frecklington and his assistant, Terry Fleming, have been handed a two-year deal as the club again aims to punch above its weight against clubs with bigger budgets.

The management duo, appointed in February after the surprise resignation of Dom Roma, guided the club to safety against the odds in a tough run-in — including victory over Salford City and draws against high-flying Kidderminster Harriers and Brackley Town.

They survived despite a 5-1 defeat at FC United of Manchester on the final as relegation rivals Worcester City lost at AFC Fyld.

Frecklington said: “We both want to be here for the long-term and now we have time to get on with our work.”

The club said the deals would give Trinity “some much-needed stability” after having three managers in 18 months — Steve Housham, Roma and Frecklington.

A spokesman said: “The stability will enable (Frecklington) to plan short, medium and longer-term, as Gainsborough look to compete in an ever-growing league.”

Chairman Richard Kane said the management duo had galvanised support and put in hard work to secure the club’s status.

He said the quick appointments would allow the management team to put their own stamp on the team, bringing in players they had identified being able to take the football club forward.

Frecklington, a former Spalding United and Lincoln United manager, has already secured four of his players for the new season — Nathan Jarman, Chris Salt, Michael Jacklin and Thomas Davie.
