Unbeaten leaders Rose And Crown steal the limelight

With only game played in the top flight, pride of place in the Gainsborough Sunday League went to Rose and Crown Reserves, who continue to carry all before them at the top of the Second Division.

After a comfortable 7-2 win at Kings Arms Reserves, which brought up their half-century of league goals, unbeaten Crown have a massive 14-point lead, which will surely lead to the title. Second spot is shared by Misterton United, who were without a fixture, and Leverton United, who enjoyed a 5-1 victory at home to bottom-of-the-table Olde Sun. The division’s other match resulted in a 7-2 success at struggling Brixton that lifted Horse and Jockey into fourth place. It was the best result for some time for the relieved away team.

In Division One, overnight snow, sleet and rain forced the postponement of the game between leaders BRSA and third-placed MUSC. So the only action was at East Markham, who suffered their eighth consecutive reverse to stay bottom of the table without a point. They contributed to a decent game but eventually fell 4-1 to BFC Clumber.

The race for the Third Division title gets more exciting by the week, with four teams, Albertos, Walkeringham, Owston Ferry SC and Black Horse, now separated by just three points. Two of them played each other, with Black Horse inflicting a heavy 6-1 defeat that knocked Walkeringham off the top. They are replaced by Albertos on goal-difference after a 10-0 whitewash of Stanwood Engineering. Don’t rule out Morton getting involved in the promotion stakes either after an 8-0 thrashing of Ropery Inn.
