Waiting game for Boston United ahead of Solihull Moors trip

Boston United manager Paul Hurst is waiting on the fitness of several players before he can name his side to play at Solihull Moors on Saturday in their penultimate game of the National Legaue campaign.

Frankie Maguire, Jordy Hiwula and Jordan Richards, from last weekend's win over Truro, joined Zak Mills, Ken Aboh and Jordan Cropper on the treatment table and could not play in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Wealdstone while Tom Cursons and Oisin Gallagher, who did play, were doubts before the match and not fully fit.

“Injuries will certainly limit choice and we will have some question marks over certain players until after training tomorrow,” said Hurst.

“It is difficult to be able to pick a team and go how we want to go.

“We can't make any decisions until after training which is far from ideal.

“But we will just get on with it. We are safe, so from that point of view it is not quite as stressful as it could have been. But it's not a situation we would choose.

“In terms of planning and preparation you can still do your homework on Solihull but it is not too easy to then pick a side you think you can hurt them.

“It will be more around what we have available and what we think perhaps suits us best with those players.”

Solihull have an identical record to Boston, only above them on goal difference and Hurst said: “I think Solihull had a tough start to the season.

“They won 2-1 at Boston and not long after that Chris (Millington) was appointed and he then went on a really good run.

“Since then they've had a tougher period, but look like they are just coming out of that.

“In terms of the table I think they would like to have been a bit higher and would think they could have been quite easily.

“But being on the same points there is motivation for both teams to get the victory and pull clear.

“It suggest an evenly matched game and I just hope we can put on a good performance as we did in midweek at Wealdstone when I was much happier than I was with how we played in the previous two games.”

Returning from injury after almost a year out, Jacob Hazel scored Boston's goal soon after coming on as a substitute on Tuesday and has admitted he does not want the season to end now.

But Hurst said it was unlikley Hazel would start a game before next season.

“I think starting Jacob is unrealistic or, if we did go that way round it would be more thinking how long can he last before we make a substitution earlier than we usually would,” he said.

“That is not a criticism of Jacob. It's just where we are.

“He is itching to play and to start, but the other night showed an element of that.

“It was the longest he'd played so far, coming on around the 65 minutes mark and I think he was feeling the tempo towards the end.

“He has been out a long time and you can never replicate match fitness in training.”
