Scott Duxbury believes Boston United let themselves down following their 2-0 defeat to Chorley.

The left back was hoping to kick off life in the Jakemans Community Stadium with three points.

But that wasn't the case as his former club claimed the spoils thanks to Connor Hall's penalty and Scott Leather's close-range drive.

"It's a big day for everyone at the club and we've let ourselves down today," Duxbury said.

"They've had two chances all game and capitalised on them. We've had numerous chances and couldn't put the ball in the back of the net.

"When you can't put the ball in the back of the net you lose football matches."

Elliot Newby smashed an early penalty wide before United conceded a second spot kick two minutes later.

"To give a second one away so quick is stupid," Duxbury added.

"It's football, it happens, but that was early in the game.

"We had loads of time to get back in the game but in the end we've let ourselves down."
