Boston United are looking to bring in a goalscorer, manager Craig Elliott has revealed.

He believes his squad needs some additional firepower as they head into the busy Christmas and New Year schedule.

Jake Wright is back training with the squad as he bids to come back from the hamstring injury which saw him limp out of the club's play-off final defeat to Altrincham in August.

And while Elliott is an admirer of the former York City man, it is understood the Pilgrims are looking to bring in someone sooner, especially with last season's top scorer Jordan Thewlis suspended for the next two matches.

Thewlis and Mitch Rose were unable to feature in Saturday's FA Trophy clash with AFC Fylde while injuries to winger Jay Rollins and midfielder Andi Thanoj meant United could only name four substitutes for that contest.

"We need to get a forward in," Elliott said.

"I think, looking at us, we need to get the injured players back as we were lacking a few options - and that's no disrespect to the lads coming on, who I thought were excellent.

"But we just need to get a bit of pace and we need a goalscorer, there's no doubt about that."

Jordan Burrow is currently the club's leading scorer with four, also having a fifth scratched off in the abandoned clash at Darlington.

Thewlis and defender Scott Garner both have three apiece, but with United netting just 11 times in nine National League North encounters - and the 4-0 victory at Leamington their only league win by a margin of more than one goal - Elliott doesn't want to leave anything to chance.
