‘We owe them nothing’ say Blues

Carlton Town went public with their grievances after the matter reached a head spoke at the club’s AGM last week, with club and board members brandishing press reports stating that Hawkridge moved to The Iorn for an undisclosed fee.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side inserted a sell-on clause in the deal that saw Hawkridge join the Blues last summer, but missed out when the midfielder moved to the Football League side.

“The deal for Terry to Scunthorpe didn’t involve a fee,” said Wallace, “so the sell-on clause doesn’t apply.”

“The deal we have with Scunthorpe was for Luke Waterfall and Terry, and involves players coming on loan to Gainsborough throughout the season.”

Speaking to the Standard on Saturday, Carlton Town chairman Mick Garton said that he is disappointed with the way Gainsborough have handles the situation.

“One of the main stipulations on letting Terry join Gainsborough was that we would have a sell-on clause,” said Garton, “and we allowed him to go for a relatively small fee because we didn’t want to stand in his way.”

“We expected Gainsborough to get in touch with details of the deal and how much we would receive via the sell-on clause, but when we chased it up it was stated by the club that no fee had been received (for Hawkridge) and as such we would not be receiving any compensation.”

“We just hope it can come to an amicable end.”

“We feel that even if Gainsborough are just getting players on loan, this is of financial benefit to them, so it’s only fair that we should get what we are entitled to.”

Hawkridge returned to the Northolme with his new side in pre-season.

He and Waterfall moved to The Iorn to join former Gainsborough owner Peter Swann.
